To increase participants’ knowledge and skills in key executive leadership and management responsibilities

various leadership styles and skills required for senior executive positions.

• Assess and orchestrate the context, conditions and competencies of leaders that affect organizational
performance.

and differences experienced by female and minority, as well as male majority executives while
exercising leadership.

• Evaluate and improve
organizational effectiveness in meeting client needs.

• Understand and address typical ethical concerns of human services executives.

• Effectively recruit and retain a qualified workforce.

• Prepare a professional
personal development plan.

The 2007 session is hosted by The University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, at its Executive Education Center.

Instructional Methodology
The program focuses on best practices in the field of human services management and leadership. Content will be delivered over 100 hours in two concentrated sessions of 4 1/2 days each over two years. A project, worked on between the sessions, will end with oral presentations during Session 2. Michigan Business School faculty will serve as mentors for the projects. In addition, the course will combine pre-institute reading, formal presentations, interactive sessions, a practicum, and individual mentoring.

• Senior-level managers who aspire to assume the duties of a CEO in the future.
• Any senior-level manager within a nonprofit, human service organization or community center with responsibility for budget and staff supervision.
• Current CEOs who recognize the need for specific training to strengthen their own managerial and leadership skills.

University of Michigan/EMI Lead Faculty
John Tropman is a professor in the Schools of Social Work and Business Administration. He also directs the University of Michigan’s joint Masters in Social Work/Business Administration degree program, and is and the author of more than over 90 books and articles in the topic area of Nonprofit Management.

Certificate of Completion
Participants completing both sessions of EMI will receive a certificate in nonprofit management.

Continuing Education Credits
The University of Michigan will award CEUs for both sessions. A small fee paid to the University is required from those seeking CEUs. Participants completing both sessions also will receive a certificate in nonprofit management.

Financial Investment
Your investment for the 2007 session is only $3,000 (comparable programs typically cost $1,000 to $1,500 more). This covers program fees, all materials, and room and board. Transportation is not included. No applications will be accepted after April 6, 2007. A deposit of $1,000 reserves your place in the program.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing. Written cancellations received by March 29, 2007 will have their tuition refunded, less a $500 administration fee. Enrollment Process
Enrollment is limited to 30 executives and senior-level managers with substantial policy and program responsibility. Preference is given to applicants from member organizations of the Alliance for Children and Families.

There are several options for enrolling in EMI. 1.) Fill out a copy of the enrollment form and send it along with payment to us via mail or fax (see form) or  2.) enroll on-line.
