Medicaid: The New Focus of Oversight and Enforcement by
the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Thursday, October 30 • 1-4 p.m.
The Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005 is having a
major impact on provider operations, which will be felt
more acutely in 2009. The DRA includes a number of
provisions for additional oversight, audit, and
investigative monies that will be directed solely toward
Medicaid, the program responsible for the vast majority
of behavioral health funding. The implications this will
have for providers of children’s services are
significant, especially with regard to the relationship
between the Medicaid program and state child welfare
systems. This workshop will review the latest federal
regulations regarding mental health rehabilitation
services as well as recent audit findings that impact
children’s systems of care.
Additional $75 fee for this post-conference event.

Civic Engagement Leadership Institute
Thursday, Oct. 30 • 1-6 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 31 • 8
a.m.-3 p.m.
Hosted at Annie E. Casey Foundation
There are many ways in which people participate in
civic, community, and political life and, by doing so,
express their engaged citizenship. From volunteering to
voting, from community organizing to political advocacy,
the defining characteristic of active civic engagement
is the commitment to participate and work for social
changes that can improve the lives of and bolster the
chances of success for children, families, and
communities.
The Civic Engagement Leadership Institute is designed to
provide learning opportunities around civic engagement.
Participants will explore pathways to develop
organizational capacity to carry out civic engagement
activities. They also will learn specific strategies to
increase staff and board involvement in facilitating
civic engagement.
There is no additional registration fee. A limited
number of stipends will be made available to individuals
who need assistance to offset travel expenses. Due to
space limitations, we will only accept registrations
from individuals who can attend the entire institute.
Transportation from the Sheraton Baltimore City Center
Hotel to the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Baltimore will
be provided.
For more information about the institute or
the stipend, or to register, contact
Linda Nguyen by Aug.
30, 2008.
