opportunities for leadership development, networking, and support
from executives across the country. Each year, a committee of
Alliance member peers selects a conference theme that focuses on a
key issue or challenge facing nonprofit human service organizations.

The Alliance National Conference is the Alliance’s premier annual event. It
presents participants with the opportunity to experience the best in networking,
professional development, and intellectual stimulation through 50 workshop
options, social events, and keynote speakers. Carefully planned each year by
peer members of the Alliance, the workshop tracks cover governance, innovative
programs, leadership, management, and the Alliance’s
professional-responsibilities-specific Communities of Practice. The wide range
of workshop tracks means this is a conference not only for CEOs and senior
management, but also for board members and key staff.

Board Chair/CEO Institute (BC/CEO)

This institute offers a unique opportunity for CEOs to work one-on-one with
their board chairs in a small group setting. Together, board chairs and CEOs
learn to enhance their working relationship while defining key strategic issues
and the specific needs of their organization. The relaxed and intimate setting
opens attendees to inspiration. Each year the institute is facilitated by
nonprofit organization executives—individuals who know the importance of the
board chair/CEO relationship firsthand.

Civic Engagement Training Institute

These institutes are designed for human service professionals responsible for
strategic planning, civic engagement, advocacy, public policy, and community
leadership. Attendees learn to better infuse civic engagement practices into
their organization’s daily work in order to stimulate community activism, which
lifts up the authentic voices of disenfranchised constituencies.

Executive Leadership Institute
(ELI)
- Save the Date: Join us May 3-8, 2009, Ann Arbor, MI
ELI is a leadership certificate program for emerging senior leaders in
the nonprofit human services sector. Individuals completing the
institute develop heightened managerial and leadership skills that
position and equip them to meet future needs within their organization.
Content is delivered over 100 hours in two concentrated sessions of
four-and-one-half days each in concurrent years. ELI is hosted on the
campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and co-sponsored by
its School of Social Work and Ross School of Business. Enrollment in ELI
is limited.

National Leadership Conference on Child Welfare Issues (NLCCWI)

The NLCCWI brings together high-performing child welfare leaders from across the
country to discuss critical issues facing the nonprofit human services sector.
Each year, a planning committee of Alliance peers selects a new theme to drive
the focus of the conference. The conference is known for its quality content and
premier networking opportunities with both experts and experienced peers.

Resource Development Services (RDS) Fund Development Conference

Save the Date: April 21-22, 2009, in Milwaukee, WI
The RDS Fund Development Conference is a dynamic two-day program for fund
development professionals, nonprofit executives, and board members. The
conference is designed to motivate organizations to successfully increase the
level of funding they receive from nongovernmental sources so that human service
agencies can assert their independence. Each year the conference is planned by
the Alliance’s Resource Development Services Advisory Group, which is composed
of executives and development officers from Alliance member organizations.
Workshop content includes a variety of fund development issues, challenges, and
innovations that are relevant to today’s nonprofit human service organizations.

Senior Leadership Conference (SLC)

This conference is for leaders of child- and family-serving organizations,
everyone from program managers to chief operating officers. Through workshops
and networking, attendees build their senior leadership circle of community.
Three workshop focus areas—operational development, leadership development, and
organizational development—allow attendees to self-design their experience to
maximize their knowledge and leadership development.
