Popular Minneapolis Member Publication

About one year after its publication, “Children in Change,” a curriculum guide created by Family & Children’s Service, an Alliance member in Minneapolis, has now found its way into the hands of hundreds of professionals who work with youth.

Copies of the curriculum book, which contains ideas for conducting peer support groups with kids who are coping with family change, have been distributed throughout the United States, including to individuals at several Alliance member organizations. The publication experienced wide distribution internationally as well, with copies stamped for delivery to locations in South Africa, New Zealand and Scotland, among others.

“Obviously, there is an exceptional need among helping professionals for a trustworthy tool that can help give kids access to supportive, asset-building groups,” says Gerry Graham, grants manager at Family & Children’s Service. “We were very pleased that we had the opportunity to help fill this gap.”

Family & Children’s Service was able to publish “Children in Change” along with a second curriculum guide called “Seeing Red” thanks to a grant from the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. The grant allowed Family & Children’s Services to distribute both books free of charge. An expansion of the initial grant has allowed the curriculum to be made available at no cost for download from the Family & Children Service’s Web site.
