Alliance Grant-Funded Programs
The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities strengthens the capacity of nonprofit human-serving organizations through several grant-funded initiatives. Past and present grants include:

Change in Mind: Applying Neurosciences to Revitalize Communities is an initiative of the Alliance to demonstrate the larger impactful role of the nonprofit sector as educator, convener, advocate, and true influencer for getting appropriate systems aligned with emerging brain science. The three-year initiative, which was established in early 2015, is conducted in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Norlien Foundation’s Alberta Family Wellness Initiative.
Since 2007, Aramark and the Alliance have been partnering to improve the quality of life for families and in communities. More than $4.3 million has been invested in funding national initiatives and local community-based work. Aramark’s philanthropic and volunteer program, Aramark Building Community, provides funding, in-kind resources, and the skills of its volunteers to create opportunities for people to improve their health and succeed in the workplace.
Through the Aramark-Alliance partnership, the Peter B. Goldberg Aramark Building Community Executive Leadership Award has been awarded to one outstanding nonprofit executive director or CEO every year since 2011. The awardee is selected for their active voice and leadership in communities. The award comes with a $40,000 grant from Aramark to the recipient’s nonprofit organization or community center.
The Alliance’s civic engagement grant programs enable members to implement strategies that encourage and give weight to the authentic voices of clients, program participants and community residents. This support helps advance social changes that increase opportunity and improve quality of life for families and communities.
Since 2005, the civic engagement program has awarded $800,000 to more than 60 Alliance members.
