Ways to Work
The Alliance for Children and Families' community development financial institution operates the Ways to Work program. This program encompasses affordable lending, financial literacy, credit repair, and transportation assistance.
Ways to Work is best known for its auto loan program, which began in 1984 as an initiative of The McKnight Foundation. By awarding small, short-term, low-interest loans to working poor families with challenging credit histories, Ways to Work allows thousands of families to overcome challenges that prevent them from achieving long-term economic self-sufficiency.
The program's success has been documented in several studies and evaluations.
Ways to Work reaches borrowers through a network of loan offices that are hosted by member agencies of the Alliance. This ensures that borrowers have ready access to a wide variety of social and self-sufficiency services to help them be successful with their loan.
More than 30 Alliance members currently operate the Ways to Work program in nearly two dozen states.
