2010 Civic Engagement Grant Partners
As part of the civic engagement grant initiative, nine members of the Alliance for Children and Families became grantee partners.
These $6,000 New Voices at the Civic Table grants support efforts that engage clients and community members in society-strengthening activities. The goal is to advance social change to improve the lives of, and bolster the chances of success for, vulnerable children, families, and communities.
Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Service
West Palm Beach, FL
Project: Funding supports change for children and families within the Coleman Park neighborhood through opportunities for dialogue, leadership development, and advocacy.
Auberle
McKeesport, PA
Project: Funds support efforts to engage Auberle constituents in educating themselves about the election process, candidates, and important issues of 2010. The grant also support programs to increase voter registration.
Child Care Association of Illinois
Springfield, IL
Project: Funding supports skill building forums that will be used to engage more foster parents in the state policy and budget processes.
Children’s Home Society & Family Services
St. Paul, MN
Project: Funds enable community members in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood to create an outdoor community space. The grant will also allow for the expansion of the organization’s advocacy work to include participation and direction from constituent leaders.
Cornerstones of Care
Kansas City, MO
Project: The organization will work with constituents to develop content and a design for a printed handbook and website dedicated to developing leadership skills, raising awareness, and starting dialogues about child welfare issues.
Family Foundations
Jacksonville, FL
Project: Funding expands constituent involvement in the Investor Advisory Committee for 1,000 in 1,000, a community partnership to move 1,000 people out of poverty in 1,000 days.
Family Service of the Piedmont
Jamestown, NC
Project: Funds support leadership and advocacy training of constituents, expansion of the community-led sustainable neighborhood gardens, entrepreneurial skill-building, and increased community involvement.
Heartland Family Service
Omaha, NE
Project: Funds enhance the work of the newly-formed North Omaha Community Council and encourage improved relationships and activities between residents, police officers, fire department officials, and church groups.
Holy Cross Children’s Services
Clinton, MI
Project: Funds support training in leadership and advocacy for youth, ages 17-21. Youth are part of the Supervised Independent Living program. These youth will be enabled to educate decision and policy makers and the general public about their needs.
