About the Executive Leadership Institute
Instructional Methodology The Executive Leadership Institute program focuses on best practices in the field of human services management and leadership. Content is delivered over 100 hours in two concentrated sessions of 41/2 days each over two years. The course of study includes pre-institute reading, formal presentations, interactive sessions, a practicum, and individual mentoring. A project, completed between the first and second years, ends with an oral presentation before the assembly of participants and faculty. Faculty of the School of Social Work and Ross Business School serve as mentors for the projects. Participants/Who Will Benefit • Senior-level managers who aspire to become a nonprofit human services CEO. • Any senior-level manager in a nonprofit human services organization or community center with responsibility for budget and staff supervision. • New CEOs who recognize the need for specific training to strengthen their management and leadership skills. • For-profit executives seeking to shift their careers to the nonprofit sector. Benefits to the Organization/Agency Individuals completing the institute develop heightened managerial and leadership skills, ensuring their organization’s capacity to meet future growth needs of their clients and community. The institute also provides the foundation for a future succession plan, as well as a visible career path for key employees. Finally, the organization will benefit from the natural networking that takes place among ELI participants as well as the establishment of professional relationships between participants and the nationally renowned ELI presenters and University of Michigan faculty who serve as mentors.
