Victory for Alliance Public Policy
Work
June 30, President George W. Bush signed the
War Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008. The legislation
ensures a moratorium on six Medicaid regulations until April
2009. At least two of the regulations would have been
particularly devastating to seniors, individuals with
disabilities, and children in the child welfare system. The
signing comes as a victory for the Alliance’s public policy
office, which has been fighting the regulations since January.
Alliance Receives Civic Engagement
Grants
The Alliance recently received three grants
totaling $975,000 to support and further develop its civic
engagement efforts. The Rockefeller
Brothers Fund and the Annie E.
Casey Foundation each funded the Alliance for the purpose
of developing a civic engagement model to help advance social
change at the local level. A third grant was received from the
W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle
Creek, MI, which will be used to further develop the capacity of
Alliance members through civic engagement practices.
