Alliance Leadership & Governance

The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities is led by a dedicated executive team and a diverse volunteer board of directors and CEO Council.

Alliance Board of Directors

The Alliance Board of Directors is comprised of selected chief executives of member organizations and volunteers, recruited for their unique skills, high level of expertise, and national profile. Directors have a variety of responsibilities such as strategic planning and recognizing opportunities to leverage the Alliance’s assets, including its community development financial institution and social enterprise. The Alliance's board committees and advisory and steering committees support this work.

The Alliance's board chair is Dennis Richardson.

President and CEO

Dennis Richardson is president and CEO of Alliance member Hillside Family of Agencies in Rochester, New York, a role he has held since 1994. Hillside Family of Agencies is one of the largest nonprofits in the state. With a budget of more than $120 million, Hillside works to translate research into effective practice solutions for children and families across western and central New York and in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Richardson served on the Alliance Board of Directors from 2007-2009. He rejoined as chair in 2013.

Before joining Hillside, Richardson was executive director of The Children’s Study Home in Springfield, Massachusetts; associate executive director of St. Joseph Children’s Services in Brooklyn, New York; associate executive director at Harlem Dowling Children’s Center in New York; and program director/supervisor/social worker at Catholic Guardian Society in Brooklyn, New York.

Richardson received a bachelor's in psychology from Montclair State University and a master's in social work from Columbia University.

Alliance CEO Council

The Alliance CEO Council is a group of 10 or more Alliance member executives who help the Alliance’s president and CEO guide the organization toward greater fulfillment of its mission and vision. CEO council members do this by voicing the goals, aspirations, and challenges of the network; identifying emerging trends and issues; and serving as ambassadors for the Alliance at the local, regional, and national levels.

Alliance Executive Team

The Alliance Executive Team is led by the organization's president and CEO, and is made up of leaders from the Alliance and its divisions.

The Alliance's president and CEO is Susan N. Dreyfus.

President and CEO

Susan N. Dreyfus is president and CEO of the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities.

Prior to joining the Alliance on Jan. 3, 2012, Dreyfus was secretary for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. She was appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire in May 2009 and served as a member of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet. She had responsibility for Medicaid, aging and long-term care, child welfare, behavioral health care, juvenile justice, economic assistance, and other human services.
