Alliance New Age of Aging Initiative

The New Age of Aging is an initiative of the Alliance for Children and Families. Its goal is to provide a comprehensive response to the dramatic demographic change associated with the 70 million American adults who will reach age 65 by 2029.

This goal is achieved by improving the awareness and readiness of nonprofit human service organizations. It involves influencing Alliance members and their staff to implement a culture that is more responsive to the needs and strengths of older adults.

The New Age of Aging’s activities focus on three major areas:

  • Encouraging changes in practice at Alliance member organizations
  • Making a positive impact on older adults’ lives
  • Creating systems within the Alliance that support members in serving older adults

The initiative’s comprehensive approach includes:

  • Developing a library of aging-related information for nonprofit human service organizations
  • Providing grant opportunities for Alliance members to gain competency in the field and develop their capacity to respond to the needs and strengths of older adults through programs and services
  • Supplying scholarships for staff and board members at Alliance member organizations to improve their core foundation of aging-related knowledge and skills

The New Age of Aging is supported by a $2.6 million grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies and a $225,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation.
