Aging in Poverty: A Call to Action
For older adults, America’s fastest growing population, a crisis is looming.
According to the group of Alliance for Children and Families members featured in this supplement to the Alliance’s social work journal Families in Society, poverty among older adults is increasing at a staggering rate.
The supplement was published as a collaboration between Families in Society and the Alliance’s New Age of Aging initiative. It grew out of the Alliance’s desire to inform both academia and the human service workforce about how the economic recession is affecting older adults and soon-to-be-retired individuals.
Ultimately, the Alliance hopes this supplement will serve as a catalyst for Alliance member staff to work creatively and effectively with economically vulnerable older Americans, as well as highlight demographic trends and new practice models.
