Alliance Unveils Public Policy Platform and 2017-2019 Federal Policy Agenda

The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities unveiled its strategic action network’s Blueprint for Strong Families and Communities Public Policy Platform and 2017-2019 Federal Public Policy Agenda during a special Alliance session April 30 at the 2017 APHSA National Health and Human Services Summit, in Partnership with the Alliance.

This milestone event gives the network the framework and tools needed to take aligned, influential, collective advocacy actions from a place of shared values and principles. The public policy platform reflects our unique position at the nexus of families, communities, systems, and government.

Now’s the time for all members of the Alliance strategic action network to join in taking collective action to change policies at the local, state, and national levels that will help foster and maintain strong families and communities.

Opportunities for Action

  • Familiarize yourself with the public policy platform and legislative agenda. In addition to reviewing online, stay tuned for upcoming webinars, where we will walk through them in detail and include time for Q&A.

  • Explore the Public Policy and Advocacy Toolkit. This toolkit contains information and materials to assist organizations in effective communications with policymakers, legislators, stakeholders, constituents, and media.

  • Get to know your members of Congress and meet with them during town hall meetings, and determine which legislative agenda items will resonate with them, taking in to account their committee involvement. Let us know your opinion on which issue-based campaigns will be most useful early on.

  • Stay connected with Alliance Public Policy and Mobilization staff and look for regular updates. We will be developing and issuing campaign materials and policy action alerts in the coming weeks. Get involved and keep us up to date about the actions you take.

Easy Ways to Stay Connected

  • Sign up to receive the Alliance Policy Radar weekly email update, and encourage your staff to do the same. The e-newsletter includes updates on federal policy issues; quick and easy ways to take action; updates on Alliance campaigns and tools; and announcements about Alliance events, campaigns, and policy groups.

  • Join a policy working group by signing up in myAlliance. Working groups share information and intelligence, lend expertise and insight, and lift up the perspective of those with lived experience. Through working groups, members will contribute to the development of policy positions, concepts, and legislative language. Current working groups include health, economic opportunity and mobility, and family well-being.

  • Contact the Alliance Public Policy and Mobilization Office by email.

Contact the Alliance Public Policy and Mobilization Office with questions or with feedback in the framing of the public policy agenda and in the types of issues and resources you would like to see us pursue.
