Cecilia Fiermonte is director of child welfare policy at the Alliance for Children and Families. She works in the Alliance’s public policy office in Washington D.C.

In her role as director of child welfare, Fiermonte tracks key issues, works with national organizations, and educates members of Congress to impact policy changes that help the children and families served by Alliance members.

An attorney, Fiermonte formerly served as assistant director for the American Bar Association (ABA) Center on Children and the Law. At the ABA, she advocated for policy change through agency, court, and legislative reform. She also provided training and technical assistance in more than 35 states and authored books and articles for leaders in the child welfare field.

She also served as a research analyst for the National Quality Improvement Center on the Representation of Children, participating in data analysis and research design.

While practicing law in New York state, Fiermonte supervised the child welfare program of the County Attorney's Office in Wyoming County, N.Y. In this position, she worked closely with judges, caseworkers, and agency administrators.

She also has represented children in family court matters in Washington, D.C.

Fiermonte received a law degree and a master’s in public communications from Syracuse University.
