Each year, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities adds new talented professionals from its network to the Senior Leadership Conference (SLC) Council. Join the council to play an instrumental role in shaping the conference program, collaborate and deepen relationships with members from around the country, and add this prominent volunteer position to your resume.

SLC provides exceptional learning and networking opportunities to develop the leadership skills and professional relationships executives, directors, and managers need to lead effectively.

To be considered for the SLC Council, apply through the online form below by March 16, 2018.


  • Serve in a role within the top two to three levels of responsibility at an Alliance member organization and/or manage departmental budgets or outcomes
  • Have attended SLC at least twice
  • Commit to serve on the council for at least four years
  • Confirm support and approval of direct supervisor and chief executive to join the council

Council Expectations


  • Participate in annual two-day planning meeting in Milwaukee June 7-8, 2018
  • Participate in monthly conference calls July-March
  • Participate in council working groups on various areas as needed, which may require additional conference calls
  • Participate in onsite pre-conference council meeting, held mid-day on the Saturday of the conference
  • While onsite at conference, be completely present—attend all events and socialize and network with participants
  • Act as room host for three to four workshops during the conference
  • Listen for and communicate attendee feedback on conference content, speakers, and logistics to Alliance staff
  • Act as an Alliance ambassador throughout the council term
  • Exhibit excellent professional behavior

Conference Support

  • Support the conference through your organization’s sponsorship by assisting in procuring a vendor sponsorship or by bringing multiple attendees
  • Provide Alliance staff with contact information for prospective sponsors, occasionally making introductory phone calls
  • Personally thank all sponsors and exhibitors for their support while at the conference


  • Assist with conference marketing to secure workshop proposals and prospective attendees by reaching out to your colleagues, professional networks, and other potential participants
  • Participate in formal peer-to-peer outreach process, consisting of phone calls and emails to past conference participants, Alliance members, and first-time attendees


  • Pay for hotel and all meals not covered by the Alliance for the planning meeting; the Alliance will secure reasonably priced accommodations and cover as many meals as possible
  • Pay own hotel and travel expenses to attend the conference; whenever possible, the Alliance tries to secure reduced conference hotel rates for council members
  • Register to attend the conference; receive 50 percent off the full conference rate

Council Composition

The SLC Council consists of up to 12 executives and directors from Alliance member organizations. No organization can have more than one representative on the council at a time.

Selection Process

Current SLC Council members independently review all applications, using only the information provided in the application to make their selection. Individuals will be notified by April 13, 2018 if they have been accepted to participate on the council.
