Position Summary
Training Futures (TF) is a nationally recognized, innovative workforce development program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). In operation since 1996, the goal of Training Futures is to increase economic opportunity through employment by teaching marketable job skills and offering post-secondary educational credentials to economically disadvantaged unemployed or underemployed, high-potential adults in a simulated office environment. TF serves 60 individuals a year through two, six-month cohorts at the Tysons Corner training site. TF’s high-expectations, high-support training model empowers trainees to consistently complete the training, obtain professional employment, and increase wages on a level that gives families a permanent pathway out of poverty. The Workforce Development Trainer will develop and deliver an integrated training curriculum, focusing on the use of Microsoft Office applications in the workplace, to the Training Futures trainees and will be responsible for hands-on instruction (including online and email communications) as well as individual support and encouragement of trainees to ensure employment success. The goal of the Microsoft Office Suite training is to ensure that trainees graduate the program with a strong foundational understanding of MS suite and that at least 65% of trainees earn a Microsoft Office Specialist certification. All staff members at TF are responsible for upholding the high-expectations, high-support program model which requires patience, understanding, compassion and discipline. All NVFS employees are expected to demonstrate the organizational values and sensitivity to the diversity of the organization’s client base. Essential Job Duties: Training: Effectively present, facilitate and deliver competency-based training course in Microsoft Office Suite applications. Formulate lesson plans, training aids, and innovate instructional methods to support growth and development of the trainees. Achieve and demonstrate a level of mastery of assigned curriculum by creating optimal learning experience for adult, English language learners. Support classroom activities that promote imaginative learning. Prepare trainees for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification and administer certification test. Monitor the use of MOS practice tests, exam software, and test environment. Work with vendor to maintain active testing license and practice test access codes. Trainee Supervision: Develop supportive professional working relationship with trainees and provide encouragement and support to ensure progress towards goals and job attainment, including direct supervision of 8-12 trainees. Track and support trainee progress and participation, ensuring trainees are able to demonstrate necessary skills and competencies to be successful in preparation for internship and/or regular employment and job search. Program Support: Serve as active team member in execution of dynamic program components such areas as volunteer coordination, special events, one-on-one coaching of clients, job search, etc. Ensure that service delivery is performed according to and within the NVFS mission, policy, and procedural direction. Participate in regular supervision with supervisor by providing regular updates and preparing trainee/classroom progress reports. Maintain current level of knowledge of curriculum content, program software, and other information on job development programs and initiatives. Qualification and Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a related field as per site curriculum. Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Word 2013 and Excel 2013. At least two (2) years of related work experience in workforce development and/or adult education. At least one (1) year of work experience teaching a Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam prep class to adult learners. Ability to teach to and engage many skill levels and learning styles within one classroom. Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.
