Position Summary
The Interpreter will provide interpretation from Spanish to English for case managers in the Family Reunification Program. The Family Reunification Program provides case management services for recently immigrated youth who were detained at the border and are being reunified with their families after being released from custody. Interpretation will be provided for home visits at the client’s residence, for phone calls and texts from clients, and on occasion at community meetings. Services may be provided during weekday daytime hours, evening hours, and weekend hours as needed. Hours are variable but typically range from 2-10 hours per week. Essential Job Duties: Provide thorough and accurate interpretation between Spanish and English all information conveyed by the case manager to the clients and from the clients to the case manager. Provide interpretation in person at home visits and by phone for phone calls to follow up with the clients and to schedule home visits. Provide minimal cultural understanding to case managers as relates to interpretation. Respond to case manager requests for interpretation in a timely manner. Be available to accommodate last minute requests for services. Drive to the clients home to meet the case manager for home visits. Qualification and Additional Requirements: Demonstrated fluency in English and Spanish required. Experience with providing interpretation and translation in a social service setting is strongly preferred, but not required. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Central American culture and communication styles. Ability to respond to stressful situations in a professional manner. Ability to function independently and have flexibility. Ability to provide services with limited notice. Demonstrate professional values of neutrality, confidentiality, and accuracy and communicate with cross cultural competency and sensitivity. Own transportation; valid U.S. driver's license.
