Gary Comer Youth Center: With a comprehensive approach to education and youth development, the Comer Education Campus is devoted to guiding young people to and through college and into adult life. The campus constitutes a unique partnership between Gary Comer Youth Center, Gary Comer College Prep, Gary Comer Middle School, and the college success initiative UtmostU. For more information, please visit: Position Summary: This position is responsible for conducting a full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, government, and corporate sources in order to grow our $2 million grant portfolio. The Grant Writer is responsible for writing proposals and submitting reports on grant funded projects. The Grant Writer also assists with the development of written communication and content for the advancement of the youth center. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: • Develop and write grant proposals to foundations, government funders, and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders • Assemble and submit grant requests including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations • Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports • Conduct prospect research • Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines, and reports • Collaborate with various team members including Grant Manager, Grant Compliance Manager, Center Director, Program Director, Director of UtmostU, and Controller to collect accurate and current program information and data for use in proposals and reports • Assist in the development of other written communication such as donor appeals, marketing collateral, and web content • Manage initiatives related to the tracking and reporting of organizational outcomes • Develop goals, logic models and outcomes for grant submissions • Strong understanding of the landscape of youth programming and supports and willingness to grow • Effective project management skills Miscellaneous: • Assist in all grant audits (program and financial) • Work collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth • Support the mission of GCYC and serve as a role model for youth and community • Abide by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures • Take on other duties as needed and assigned Qualifications: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve • Strong interpersonal skills • Ability to analyze/compile technical and statistical information and prepare reports and correspondence • Ability to analyze and interpret grant contracts and agreements • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities • Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care • Strong understanding of government grants • Experience with the formation and presentation of data reports • Strong written and oral communication skills • Ability to manage projects independently • Readiness to work on team projects Education & Skill Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus • Three to five years of grant writing experience preferred • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Proficient in use of computer technology primarily Microsoft Excel and Office Suite, ETO Social Solutions, and Salesforce • Experience writing and managing government grants
