About Second Acts
In America, 11,000 individuals with a tremendous amount of skill and expertise turn 65 every day. Through its intergenerational initiative Second Acts for Strong Communities, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities is uniting a cohort of 10 organizations and greater member network around best practices and new approaches for engaging and leveraging older adult talent. There are three major components to the initiative:
- Implementing an intentional encore human capital approach at demonstration sites
- Building a learning community and creating resources
- Embedding encore talent as a human capital strategy within the Alliance network
Each site in the Second Acts for Strong Communities cohort will retain one grant-funded fellow, age 50 or older, who will provide leadership on the project and support the recruitment and placement of additional encore talent. Working in a learning cohort, the leaders and encore talent from the sites will share insights and experiences resulting from their activities. Together, the cohort will gather knowledge, create replicable tools and materials, and build a network of ambassadors to scale intergenerational models through the Alliance network and nonprofit and public human-serving sectors.
The Alliance and Encore.org will provide the infrastructure for the learning community by providing virtual and in-person knowledge sharing opportunities.
